The Camarillo Airport hangar was purchased new as a 40×50 feet metal structure and installed in the strategically picked spot by the Captain Don Gulotta. The sun rises and shines on the hangar door (the 50ft side) in the early morning, providing warms and natural light for the hangar when it is up. In the afternoon, the hangar door side casts the shadow, making the hangar 20 degrees cooler than the atmospheric temperature. Such a unique position only shared by 5 other hangars in the same row. Captain Don Gulotta was famous for picking strategic locations. He did the same for his ranch house in Camarillo where he could observe spectacular sunrises from his bedroom.
According to Smithsonian Magazine, the Camarillo airport is the “nirvana for small airplanes”. Many celebrities and Hollywood stars chose this location. It is just a short 20 minutes drive from Malibu, and 45 minutes drive from Santa Barbara. The airport security is extra vigilant, and the leasing manager Madeline Herrle is very accommodative to the current tenants, she is a fair and diligent administrator, and a great person. She has helped our family in many creative ways, such as providing Don Gulotta’s family member in charge of selling the hangar with a special escort to commemorate his legacy. Don Gulotta was one of the pioneers at the Camarillo Airport, his memory is still alive. Big thanks to the airport administration that keeps the memory of the Korean War veteran and the American Airlines captain Don Gulotta alive!
